Shearing Layers
CarbonSpace uses the as a default structure: Lifecycle Phases in CarbonSpace
In CarbonSpace, default libraries account for most carbon emissions displayed in our EPDs. Because our materials function as “sane defaults”, or in other words generic assumptions to make carbon budgeting and steering easier, we omit transport (A4, C2), as this is project-specific.
Embodied carbon targets
Carbon targets and scopes can vary per country:
Biogenic carbon
Biogenic carbon refers to the carbon stored in materials. This is most common in bio-based materials such as timber. Biogenic carbon is stored in the production lifecycle (phase A) of the product. It is emitted in the demolition phase (phase C) when these materials are incinerated and release the stored carbon.
Depending on LCA scopes, biogenic carbon can be subtracted from the embodied carbon footprint. To manage this variability in methods, iIn CarbonSpace, we report biogenic carbon separately.
